For the past few months I have been working for the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in their archive. One of my tasks was to create a booklet about the history of the Motherhouse chapel. The Hamilton Motherhouse was built in 1951, in time to celebrate the Congregations' 100th anniversary in Hamilton. The chapel, a place of community and prayer, has been a central fixture in the Sisters’ lives. It represents their physical and spiritual presence within the community. From an aesthetic point of view, the chapel has a wonderful collection of liturgical art made by Canadian artists. Two Canadians—Dora de Péderey Hunt and Philip Aziz—lent their creative skills, creating works of art that transformed the space into one of quiet reverence. I did the research, writing and photography for the booklet. Click here to access the booklet and learn more about the history of the Hamilton Motherhouse chapel.
